While reading the book “How to win friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie, I was reminded that we all have the desire to be important. We crave appreciation almost as much as we crave food.
As business leaders, appreciating even the little things that our team members do well shows them they are important to us and they tend to perform better. Even when a team member is not performing at his/her 100% there is usually something they are doing well – so show them your appreciation for that. I personally find that doing so boosts their confidence and they start to improve.
Now, make sure you give HONEST APPRECIATION. This is different from flattery, while the first comes ‘heart out’, the later comes ‘teeth out’ and people do notice it.
